Beethoven's deafness manifested itself gradually, starting in his late 20s and worsening over time. He experienced a ringing in his ears, known as tinnitus, which eventually progressed to complete deafness. This had a profound impact on his ability to perform and compose music, as he could no longer hear the sounds he was creating. Despite his deafness, Beethoven continued to compose and conduct music, relying on his memory and the vibrations of the piano to guide him. **

Deafness can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, aging, exposure to loud noises, infections, and certain medical conditions such as meningitis or Meniere's disease. In some cases, deafness may be present at birth due to genetic mutations or complications during pregnancy or childbirth. Additionally, certain medications and trauma to the head or ear can also lead to deafness. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the specific cause of deafness in each individual case. **

Deafness itself is not a fatal condition, so deaf people cannot die directly from being deaf. However, there are potential risks and challenges that deaf individuals may face that could impact their health and safety. For example, if a deaf person is unable to hear warning signals or alarms, they may be at a higher risk of accidents or not being able to respond to emergency situations. Additionally, there may be health conditions or medical emergencies that could go unnoticed if a deaf person is unable to communicate effectively with healthcare providers. Therefore, while deafness itself is not fatal, there are potential risks and challenges that could impact the overall well-being of deaf individuals. **

As an AI language model, I don't have personal preferences, but I can provide some perspective. Both blindness and deafness present unique challenges and have significant impacts on a person's life. Some individuals may prefer deafness because they can still experience the visual world, while others may prefer blindness because they can still hear and communicate with others. Ultimately, the preference between the two would depend on the individual's personal circumstances and how they adapt to their specific challenges. **

Deafness is not a common side effect of smoking marijuana. However, some studies suggest that heavy marijuana use may have negative effects on cognitive functions, including memory, attention, and learning. These cognitive impairments could potentially impact a person's ability to communicate effectively, which may indirectly affect their hearing and understanding of spoken language. It is important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential effects of marijuana use on hearing and communication abilities. **
